10 Affordable Ethical Christmas Gifts To Buy From Know The Origin

Know The Origin is a temporary pop-up shop on Dukes Lane that will leave Brighton on 1st December, but still gives us some time to shop for ethical Christmas gifts, yey!

I checked out what they have to offer and came up with a list of 10 things I would buy for my loved ones that are practical, don’t cost a ton of money AND also look cute!

1. FANCY RELISHES & JAMS

KTO has a nice range of relishes and jams, savory as well as sweet, and they even come in a nice gift set that is also slightly cheaper than buying them individually. How amazing do Banana Ketchup and Pink Onion & Chilli dip sound?! You’re also helping reduce surplus waste that would’ve been thrown away if not turned into delicious dips and jams!

2. REUSABLE FACE WIPES

For £7 you get 7 super soft reusable wipes that you can just hand wash after use. Think about all the packaged make up remover wipes you wouldn’t have to buy and about all the waste you could avoid like this… you might as well just buy this as a gift to yourself!

3. PANA CACAO RAW, VEGAN & HANDMADE CHOCOLATE

OMG, I can’t stress how much I would appreciate these chocolate bars as a gift (to my girlfriend: take a hint…)! They’re raw, vegan and handmade and the variety of flavours is amazing. My personal faves are dark chocolate mint and dark chocolate orange! They can also be bought as a gift set and again: you can just buy them for yourself, not saying that I did, but oh well…

4. LUX LUZ SCENTED CANDLES

If you’re into buying fancy, luxurious gifts then this might be the gift for you! These candles by Lux Luz are made from Eco Soy and smell heavenly. The Christmas Piece one is definitely an ideal Christmas gift. They are not cheap, but compared to candles from ZARA they are definitely worth it if you’re into scented candles!

5. DELICATE JEWELRY

Know The Origin also offers a small, but cute selection of jewellery, ranging from affordable (compared to high street) prices to a little more expensive items. They definitely look great and are made from real silver as well as gilded. Just pop in and have a look for yourself!

6. FULFILLED PLASTIC FREE SOAP & SHAMPOO BARS

These plastic free soap & shampoo bars are a zero-waste essential and don’t only smell really nice, but will also last you for a few months which is way better and more eco friendly than buying a new shampoo bottle every other week! Buy one for your friends or just treat yourself to one of those cute bars for £3.50.

7. BASIC WHITE TSHIRT

This white cotton shirt goes for £22, which can be compared to Topshop prices, so why not buy a basic tee form KTO and support fair trade, fair wages and eco-friendly production?! This one also comes in a variety of colors and feels super soft and has no chemicals for those with sensitive skin.

8. PLASTIC FREE TOOTHBRUSH & TOOTHPASTE

Another essential for a waste reducing lifestyle is a plastic free toothbrush like this one which is made from bamboo. For £10 you can get one toothbrush and the natural mineral truthpaste and both will last you way longer than conventional ones. It might sound quite pricey to begin with, but will be worth the money and help reduce plastic waste in the long run!

9. BAMBOO KNICKERS BY CLIO PEPPIATT X BIRDSONG BAMBOO

These cute knickers by Clio Peppiatt x Birdsong Bamboo look super cute and artsy and also help a good cause. They are 96% bamboo and are made in London by women facing significant barriers to employment. Looking cute and supporting other women is SO IN!

10. SOOTHE-ME CLAY MASKS

Clay masks are super trendy atm and there’s a good reason why; they’re organic (in most cases) and great for exfoliating your skin. (They also make your skin incredibly soft…) These clay masks by Soothe-Me can be bought at KTO for £12 and come in gorgeous variations such as Olive & French Green, which smells as good as it will make your skin feel.

Final thoughts:

Although most items at KTO are not super cheap, but can be compared to high street prices. The store has a nice variety and a very cosy look altogether. It’s also very helpful to know the origin of all the stuff you buy, so the very high transparency is definitely a huge factor of buying from KTO. Also the staff is really lovely and open to answer questions and have a chat.

I suggest you pop in and have a look for yourself!
