10 Brighton events to go to in December
Whether you’ve dusted off your Michael Bublé album or not, that inevitable Canadian lilt is in the air and that can only mean one thing: Christmas is coming. Here are some fantastic events happening this December, festive and non-festive alike, to remind you ‘tis the season to be jolly.
BURNING THE CLOCKS
Thursday 21st December, from 6.30pm, free
What better way to celebrate the shortest day of the year than to light up the night with a lantern filled parade? For two decades Same Sky have been bringing the city together to celebrate the winter solstice, filling the streets with outlandish costumes, paper and willow clock lanterns and ending with a dazzling fire show to usher in the coming year. Expect fireworks, good cheer and maybe even a glass of mulled wine.
CONSCIOUS CHRISTMAS MARKET @ ONECHURCH BRIGHTON
Saturday 16th December, 10.30am - 5pm, free
Christmas gifts that don’t cost the Earth! The Conscious Christmas Market is Brighton’s first ethical, sustainable, plastic-free, plant-based Christmas market. Find great gifts, hot mulled drinks and helpful information on how to enjoy an ethical and sustainable Christmas.
Brighton Girl Christmas Party @ Fortune of war
Tuesday 12th December, 7.30pm, free
We're hosting a Christmas Party at the Fortune of War on Tuesday 12th December! Put on some sequins or a bin liner and take the opportunity to have a few too many drinks. It would be lovely to end the year on a high with all the wonderful women we’ve met this year (those being YOU).
RISEFest + DRUM OUT ABUSE, MEET @ THE LEVEL
Saturday 9th December, from 1.30pm, Free
Have you ever felt helpless in the fight against domestic abuse? Domestic abuse is happening every day and RISE is doing something about it. On the 19th December you can experience the "18th Century practice of Rough Music where villagers would surround the house of a known abuser and bang pots and pans to shame them into change, marchers made it clear that domestic abuse will not be tolerated in our communities." Let's march and make some noise, to stand up against domestic abuse.
XMAS ARTISTS OPEN HOUSES
2nd/3rd, 9th/10th December, Free
Kick off the festive season with a visit to the Artists Open Houses and treat your family, friends (or even yourself!) to an original Christmas gift by one of the country’s finest. The comfort of a nice blazing hearth and a mince pie offer a welcome and well-deserved alternative to the High Street. You can pick up Artists Open Houses Christmas brochure at Brighton and Hove library and museum, Brighton train station, bars and cafes around town and at all Open House venues from the start of the festival.
ABI FLYNN BENEFIT CONCERT @ THE WALRUS
Wednesday 6th December, 8 – 11.30pm, £10
An evening of inspiring music brings together Brighton jazz and soul musicians this December at The Walrus in support of singer-songwriter Abi Flynn. You buy tickets on the door - so no stress to buy tickets before the event! You can find more details on the concert here.
COMEDIANS CINEMA CLUB: KOMEDIA
Tuesday 19th December, from 19:30, £5
You may never have considered a crossover between the Muppets and Die Hard, but thankfully the Comedians Cinema Club has it covered. The UK’s best comedians are back this December to create brilliant improvised versions of well-loved movies with outrageous outcomes. I know what you’re thinking: Yippee ki-yay!
NORTH LAINE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
Thursday 7th & Thursday 14th December, 6-9pm, Free
A season of giving is all well and good, but the Christmas crowds leave a lot to be desired. Once again North Laine’s beloved independent shops are teaming up and keeping their doors open until 9pm. So, not only does that mean a chance to find the perfect gifts, you get to do it away from the high street crowds – double win!
KRATER CHRISTMAS PARY @ KOMEDIA

If you’re looking for a Silent Night this Christmas then the Krater Christmas Party may not be the place for you. However, for a night of festive fun all under one roof, including a delicious three course meal, top notch comedy and dancing until late, then look no further.
