10 Brighton events to go to in October

Its official, autumn has landed! The season of mulled wine, chunky knit scarves and curling up with a hot chocolate has hit Brighton.

While the food scene thrives with OctoberBEST, get out and explore the arts and culture scene before full blown hibernation sets in.

Britain On Film: LGBT Britain With Live Curator Talk @ Sweet Dukebox

Tuesday 3rd October: 7.30pm-9.30pm, £5

A mid week cinematic treat to kick October off! With films spanning 1909 to 1994, Britain on Film documents a century in which homosexuality went from crime to Pride, via decades of profoundly courageous activism. 

Downstairs at the Dove @ The Black Dove

Thursday 5th October: 7.30pm, free

A night of free comedy in one of Brighton's favourite cocktail spots. Downstairs at the Dove features a mix of established acts trying out new material and comedy newbies taking to the stage for the first time - cocktails and comedy...sign me up!

Brighton Breeze, VW Fun Run @ Maderia Drive

Saturday 7th October: 12:00pm onwards, free

Brighton loves to host a fun run, and this October is no different! Head down to Maderia Drive to check out VW enthusiasts from all over the UK who have made their way down to show off their vintage wheels and customised vans.

4 of UK Garages powerhouses all in one place, this is guaranteed to be a night pumping out the old skool classics including, but not limited to 'with a little bit of luck' and 're-rewind'. Where are all my garage girls? Get the hoops in and the trainers on ready to dance into the night.

Rhoda Dakar @ Patterns

Friday 13th October: 7pm-10pm, £14

Rhoda Dakar is a British singer/musician best known for being the front woman of The Bodysnatchers in the mid 80's. Catch this formidable woman of the UK reggae scene performing live at Patterns and debuting new material.

Friday 13th October: 7pm, £8

Sure, as Brightonian's know the best place to get pizza, the quiet spot on the beach away from the day trippers and which pub does a killer bloody mary but there is more to Brighton than meets the eye. Only in Brighton! is a 90-minute fact-filled and tongue-in-cheek walk around the main sights and hidden corners of the city. 

Tru Thoughts 18th Birthday @ Brighton Dome

Wednesday 18th October: door 6.15pm, £20

The Brighton based label is celebrating its 18th birthday with one hell of a bash! With headline sets from legendary Tru Thoughts artists Quantic (DJ set), Hot 8 Brass Band and Alice Russell, alongside new talent in the shape of Werkha and Bryony Jarman-Pinto and DJ sets from Wrongtom, J-Felix and label boss Rob Luis, this is a party not to be missed.

Kingdom: SpooKINGS @ Latest Music Bar

Friday 20th October: Door 8PM, £6-8

A firm Brighton Girl favourite, Kingdom are firmly in the Halloween spirit this month. Join them for a spooktacular night of drag king cabaret filled with spooKINGS, a whole lot of polterGAYsts and fun halloween games - apple bobbing & pumpkin carving! Dressing up is highly recommended!

Poets, Comedians & MC's Welcome Refugees @ Caroline of Brunswick

Sunday 22nd October: 7.30pm, £6

Hosted by one of our very own BG’s in support of The Humming Bird Project, this event will be raising money to continue the work done with refugees who have been relocated from the refugee camps throughout Europe and still need support upon relocation to the UK.  Head on down for a night of Spoken Word, stand up comedy, super sized raffle and help support a worthy cause. 

Bitches and Witches @ Komedia

Friday 27th October: 8pm-2.30am, from £5

Halloween is always a tricky one, why not join Komedia as they're inviting all ghouls, guys and gals to come out and play at their Bitches and Witches themed party for a night of feverish frolicking. Costumes are a must, so weather you go for Winnie from Hocus Pocus or the Wicked Witch of the West this night is fueled by goulish ladies.
