Best 5 Brighton coffee shops to Instagram
Brighton has long been a thriving hub for coffee lovers, with a coffee house to suit every taste - whether in espresso, interiors or atmosphere, you're guaranteed to find one that fits. But this saturation of caffeine can be overwhelming; how exactly do you find it when there are so many to choose from?
And what if, like so many of us do, you end up settling for the first one you see, only to be left underwhelmed by the overly-pretentious atmosphere or scared for your life when the barista says the word "expresso".
Well, Brighton Girls, this is exactly what we're here for, and we've picked out the 5 most Instagrammable cafés in Brighton, for those of you who love to relax with a flat white and take in the aesthetics.
Presuming Ed is hard to miss, a prominent yellow cornerstone on the bustling London Road, known for its Costa-shaming smack talk and coffee love poems on the a-frame outside. A little quirky, yes, but Presuming Ed offers top-notch coffee, sandwiches and huge cake slices, and now boasts a gorgeous back yard with sun terrace.
What else? Well, the toilet walls are pasted in X Men and Tom and Jerry comic books and there is a chance you might stumble across the Coffee Wizard himself.
Bond Street Coffee
Bond Street, The North Laine
If you're serious about your coffee, Bond Street is your jam. There isn't much in the way of food here as the focus is fully on the sweet, brown nectar, but you can find several pastries, brownies and savoury muffins. An eclectic mix of sofas, benches, crates and tables make up the interior, but Bond Street still manages a comfortable warmth of a good friend's living room, and the latte art knocks most others out the park.
What else? Bond Street have an Instagram account dedicated solely to their four-legged customers, @dogsofbondst. It's worth hanging out here just for the pup-spotting.
Sydney Street, The North Laine
Pelicano is a coffee shop counter dream. An ever-changing variety of mouth-watering cakes, slices and bars are the first thing that greets your eyes, with a choice of toasted sandwiches, baguettes, bagels and pastries for the most savoury amongst us. Everything is served on a pelican adorned wooden board (and who doesn't love a wooden board for Instagram, right?), tables are topped with vases of bright flowers, and the upstairs window spot offers a wonderfully distracting view of Gunns the florist.
What else? The front seating on a sunny Brighton day makes for fantastic people watching in the very heart of the North Laine, so sit back with an iced coffee and immerse yourself in Brighton life.
Eastern Road, Kemptown
Café Marmalade hits the nail on the head and bashes it into the woodwork for good measure where style is concerned. Brown paper menu scrolls sit on bare walls pasted with recipe cut-outs, but there isn't one ounce of pretentious about this place. Shelves of jars, milk bottles, crates of bread, book stacks and hanging wooden paddles create the haphazard Weasley-like farmhouse look; this clever merchandising not only makes an Instagram triumph, but transports you out of Brighton and into a Sussex village tea room daydream.
What else? Ice. Cream. Milkshakes.
i gigi Café
Western Road, Hove
Just as it seemed Marmalade would pip the number 1 spot, we stumbled across i gigi Café and wound up in an Ideal Home stupor. i gigi covers every little touch perfectly, and it creates such a beautifully simple and tidy look that you might not notice the intentionalism until you sit and take it all in. This peaceful little haven is situated above the beautiful General Store on Western Road; take a look around, but good grief do not touch anything.
What else? Toast baskets, giant meringues and three different types of Welsh Rarebit.
