Brighton Etsy Christmas Gifts for Plant Lovers
2017 was the year that plants took over Brighton (and Hove).
Hear me out for a moment: try to think of a cafe in our city where a plant isn't present. The Longhouse Cafe, which opened earlier this year, is essentially a very cool, sustainably sourced jungle, with plants hanging all over the ceiling - even the food there is plantbased. Plenty's also really stepped up their plant hanging game lately.
Both of these businesses were decorated by Spiderplant, who are based in the same space as Waiste Vintage.
And in pretty much every independent fashion shop, there's a cacti, succulent or "airplant" of some form chilling out in a corner or from the ceiling.
The North Laine in particular feels like it's evolving into an accidental billboard for Gunns florist.
We've all got that one (at least) friend who takes photos of Waiste Vintage's shop window or Nowhere Man's succulent gardens whenever we're with them. So, for their Christmas present, the best thing you could get them is a plant of their own.
And why not support local, too?
We've discovered some amazing Brighton Etsy sellers making plant-based gifts that your plant friend would love.
Cacti: Hi Cacti
The Cacti craze has made way for your loved ones to get these beautiful handmade plant pots (and other Cacti-loving gifts) from Hi Cacti for Christmas. You can also find Cacti-themed wall art, stationary and the soil needed to keep your indoor garden fresh.
Glass terrarium and airplants: Glasshouse UK
Glass terrarium houses are all the rage on Pinterest - and in a lot of local Brighton cafes. This Brighton Etsy Seller, Glasshouse, handmakes them! You can also find glasshouses for airplants, as well as lantern holders, jewellery, mirrors and Christmas decorations made of glass, too.
Hanging Plant Gardens: The Sky Gardens
These handcrafted sky gardens are made from brass, wood and glass, with a whole range of plants beautifully decorated inside. Some of them even include crystals, where The Sky Gardens team have laid out the emotional benefits of them.
Written by Pippa Moyle, who's "that friend" taking photos of the plants whenever you meet her for coffee.
Want to see these in the flesh? Pop over to the Brighton Etsy Christmas Market at Brighton Dome on 2nd December.
And if you know of any other local Brighton plant sellers we should be looking at, share their stores in the comments below.
