How to Spend Valentine's Alone in Brighton

If you’re single on Valentine’s Day, there’s probably nowhere better to be than Brighton. It’s full of neat ways to enjoy some ‘me time’ and treat yourself if the celebrating couples are getting you down.

But if you’re feeling any dread as the day approaches, here are some cool things to do for yourself.

Buy your own flowers

Who says you have to wait to be bought flowers? Striking bouquets can always be enjoyed and when you pick them for yourself, you’re guaranteed to like them. The Brighton Flower Company on Western Road creates bespoke bouquets from fresh, seasonal flowers and can make you something truly special with roses, tulips and even a bold yellow mix of freesias, Chamomile, daffodils and mimosa.

View their Valentine’s bouquets or drop by the shop - it’s charming and definitely Instagram worthy. A well-timed post could scare those who are less prepared!

Walk on the beach

Literally anyone inland would love to have a beach to take a stroll on over Valentine’s, let alone the rest of the year. Grab some friends and take a walk after work and enjoy the sunset. Just wrap up warm and take a coffee with you to really treat yourself. Why not try Lucky Beach Cafe for an independent brew?

Head to The Lanes

Strolling these intricate alleyways is enough to make anyone smile and is a great way to spend a couple of hours shopping, or enjoying the world go by with a spot of people watching. Pop down to Choccywoccydoodah if you’re a chocolate fan, or Vinyl Revolution if you want to find some empowering music to blast out as well as some retro-inspired clothes.

Go to new heights

Take your best single friend on the ultimate mate’s date on the British Airways i360 to get a fantastic view of the city and sea we love. One to go for if you fancy a bit of pampering and luxury, put on your best ‘out out’ clothes and grab a glass of champagne on the world’s tallest moving observation tower. Sure, couples will have the same thought but you’ll be having too much fun to pay any attention.

Netflix and dinner

Of course, you can just be at home in Brighton and have a good time. Put on your comfiest pyjamas, your favourite show or horror flick and take a big breath of fresh air. Sometimes you just need to enjoy a solo night where you can totally relax, enjoy good food and not worry about the pressures of dating or ‘finding the one’.

Some good choices are any and all episodes of The Gilmore Girls, The Good Place (for a funny existential crisis), or Grace and Frankie starring the great Jane Fonda.

If you feel silly for indulging, don’t! Here’s a quote from Taylor Swift on being single that 100% rings true: “Being alone is not the same as being lonely. I like to do things that glorify being alone. I buy a candle that smells pretty, turn down the lights and make a playlist of low-key songs.”
