6 women to watch at the Alternative Escape

The fresh, free version of the Great Escape is nearly here: the Alternative Escape! For a weekend filled with up and coming musical talent, the Alternative Escape is the perfect event to give your summer playlist the musical refresh that it needs.

In true Brighton Girl style, we've snooped out all of the fierce, fresh women we believe are worth a listen to at this year’s Alternative Escape.

Penny Police @ The Marlborough

18th May: 8.30pm

Under the pseudonym of Penny Police, Copenhagen-based singer Marie Fjelsted can’t wait to showcase her airy, alternative sound this year. Her versatile and honest music makes her an accessible and enjoyable artist for all.

Francesca Fulmini @ The Mesmerist

18th May: 8pm

From Belgium to Brighton, Francesca Fulmini is ready to offer a fresh set to the Alternative Escape this year. Prepare for a performance that intertwines hip hop, soul and R&B sounds.

Rosie Carney @ the Black Lion

19th May: 6pm

As part of SBLive and Akira Records’ evening of upcoming musical talent, Rosie Carney is certainly one to look out for. Already labelled as “heart-wrenchingly beautiful” music by Crack In The Road, the 20 year old Folk artist is expected to put on a mesmerising performance at this year’s Alternative Escape

Be Charlotte @ The Hub

19th May: 8.55pm

Despite only being 19 years old, Be Charlotte is already showing promising signs of an upcoming artist to watch. From Scotland to the South, be prepared for Be Charlotte, as she provides a performance that explores all her vocal abilities, from her singing to even a taste of beat-boxing and rap.

Lara Smiles @ the black lion

20th May: 6pm

As the opening act for Oyster Music and Rotor Videos’ evening of Brighton Rock, Lara Smiles is sure to set the bar high for the night. With a fusion of indie and electro in her music, Lara’s sound has already been picked up by both XFM and BBC Radio 6’s ‘BBC Introducing’.  Look out for her new single ‘LIES’, which is set to drop on the 19th May, just in time for her set at the Alternative Escape!

Jane Gilbert @ Cafe Plenty

20th May: 5.15pm

For the folk lovers among us, Jane Gilbert’s music is the perfect performance choice during this year’s Alternative Escape. Her raw, stripped-back music has already been shared with various cities across Europe, as well as the Great Escape Festival previously. With a debut album due in early 2018, Gilbert is set to have a busy, but brilliant year!
